Wilhelm Heinrich Otto Dix (German: [ˈvɪlhɛlm ˈhaɪnʁiç ˈɔto ˈdɪks]; 2 December 1891 – 25 July 1969) was a German painter and printmaker, noted for his ruthless and harshly realistic depictions of Weimar society and the brutality of war. Along with George Grosz, he is widely considered one of the most important artists of the Neue Sachlichkeit.
Keisuke Itagaki (板垣恵介 Itagaki Keisuke, born April 4, 1957) is a Japanese manga artist. He is best known for his martial arts series Grappler Baki (1991–1999) and its three sequels, which have sold over 60 million volumes. Izo Hashimoto (橋本 以蔵 Hashimoto Izō, born February 21, 1954 in Shimane Prefecture) is a Japanese screenwriter and film director.
Which practitioners are you aware of that have influenced you formally?
Provide examples and contextual statements.
Keisuke Itagaki, I have read a manga he illustrated, it’s called ‘Garōden’, Garouden is a series of Japanese martial arts novels by Baku Yumemakura. They have been adapted as a feature film, a manga by Keisuke Itagaki, and two video games.
To me, Keisuke is a master of violence aesthetics, his exaggerated visual language in his manga shocked and influenced me ever since I read ‘Garōden’, I think he did an excellent job on giving electrifying experience to readers though reading his manga.
